When a Player finishes an island with perfect score he/she can select one of three rewards.
One of those rewards is always a Pilot. It is nice to obtain Pilots to collections.
It would be even great if in that screen additional string would display [UNLOCKED] or NOT YET UNLOCKED.

Rather, just note if they AREN'T unlocked. There's no need to clog the screen with something that will be completely unnecesary about 10 hours in at most.

This would also work, so yeah.

Into the player suggestion list it goes.

I would say you could just have the pilot's name display in red (locked) or green (unlocked), rather than adding another field of data.
