[AE][Alpha] New tool to change hidden game values in the executable

Hey guys, I didn't see something like this posted anywhere so I've made a new java application for us to further mod this great game.
This tool, which works through hex editing, allows us to directly change a lot of the values in the executable that are not available in the XMLs such as crew movement speed, repair speed and damage for the different races, system manning bonuses, and many others. The best part is it should work with any previous mod, including Captain's Edition, as it modifies a different file entirely.

At the moment, this only works for the latest mac version of advanced edition, but I plan to make a windows version if this one works successfully.

Edit: Confirmed to work on mac by Russian dudes, starting work on Windows version

If everything's fine, I have a lot more options waiting to add including mind control and hacking duration, and mind control speed and damage bonuses.
Eventually, the goal is to be able to add new races, systems, etc, though this will obviously take a lot more work.

Another thing: because of the way the game is compiled, in many cases you don't actually type in the value you want. Instead there's a big dropdown of 100s of options to choose from (1.0, 1.1, 1.25...) etc. There are so many however, I've never had any trouble finding the one I wanted!

This will be almost as overpowered as using a drone minibeam on my ship AND this won't crash my game (i hope :p)

Changing speed to a hundred thousand times never crashed the game for me, but changing speed to negative makes your crew walk out of the ship forever into the void XD

Once the Windows version works can you make a Linux version? I don't have any Windows PCs that can run FTL :cry:

Also could this be used to change hardcoded stuff? (Systems and stuff like that).

Whoa how did you find that, thanks Russian dudes!

Ok, going to add a few more features like the ability to change hacking, mind control, max health and some other stuff, and also make a Windows version.
(Maybe a little while because the Windows code is 'hidden' a lot more than the mac one, and harder to figure out)

Sounds good. Definately a PC version is needed, unless somehow the PC version is harder to jailbreak than the Mac :lol:
