[MOD] [AE] "Low O2" Icons - WORKS IN AE

Postby 5thHorseman » Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:11 am

This is a very small mod to address a very particular issue:
Rooms that are not 1x2, 2x1, or 2x2 don't look right when your ship runs out of air.

This mod changes the 3 graphics for "out of air" to a single icon in the upper-left corner of the room:

Here's an example image, a Kestrel in dire straits:

Download the mod here: http://pulpaudio.com/ftl/O2_Icons.ftl

Install with Grognak's ModManager here: http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2464

If anybody has any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, better example images, or anything else, please let me know. This is my first mod and I by no means know what I'm doing.

Feel free to use these 3 images in your own mods or suggest to people they also install this mod along with yours.

This would get around non-standard room sizes having problems with low O2 shading, no?

Not only would it, but that's the entire purpose of the mod.

So make your rooms any size you want, but I'd suggest avoiding throwing graphics and systems in the rooms' upper left corners. I can still tell what's going on on that Kestrel in the shield room and the cockpit, but it's not 100% ideal.

Can you still see a breach in the no O2 square?

Breaches show over the diagonal lines, so I'd assume they'd show over these as well. However, that's a concern and as soon as I can think of a way to test it, I will. I am using the mod in my play so hopefully I'll see it eventually.

That's how it looks with breaches:

And on non-standard rooms:

It's a bit confusing when crewmembers stand over the icon, but definitely better than having stripes on other parts/outside of the ship. Other than i think you did a pretty good job.

Thanks! I also got a screen with breaches. I ran a test with my not-ready-for-primetime ship and in the very first encounter I got this situation:

I played it out to see if I could survive, and a few minutes later got this:

I think maybe my new ship is a little hard :)

Just wanted to let you know I suggested using this mod along with my Mantis ship mod in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=14457. Works well since that ship has no O2 system and a 2x3 medbay. Nice work!
Crusher's Type C(hallenge) Mod Ships containing:
Mantis Type C: The Sarcosuchus (No O2!)
Engi Type C: The Singularity (Boarding Drones!)
Zoltan Type C: The Annihilator (No Starting Reactor Power!)
Rock Type C: Krakatoa (Fire Boarding!)
