I don't think automated ships are all that dangerous for the Crystal B, since you can just board their weapons/drones and punch them out, cloak if you really have to, then retrieve your boarders and escape. The Last Stand is always in sector 8. You can tell what sector number you're in by checking the bottom of the jump map (whenever it's available). You could have say 4 burst laser IIIs and fire 20 lasers. Unfortunately the trick doesn't work very well with Burst Laser III as the starting weapons since it takes them so long to fire off all of their shots, so the secondary weapons would lose most of their charge during their time. Stealth Weapons does literally nothing for the setup described - beams don't subtract cloaking time even if fired in cloak; it's all other projectile weapons that do that.

Don't forget a Zoltan Shield, so that enemies can't board you, hack you or mind control you until your shield takes some damage.
