I just want to throw this one out there:: One of the easiest games I had was on Normal difficulty and all of the finds/loot was just lining up perfectly for me the entire game. I ended up with a 2 man boarding party of Mantis with max combat skill, and 3 Boarding Drones on the Tarus (engi) ship. GOO...

So I'm in sector 3, average game so far in the Osprey, nothing spectacular. nah, if you're too lazy to make sure your people are in the right place, you deserve whatever happens because of this. This game is all about micromanagement, so adding something that removes this doesn't really make sense to the game.

I use the circular Engi ship mostly, and I had a game where I had 3 Boarding Drones and a Boarding Crew, you just launch the drones first and wait to see where they hit, then pause, port the boarding crew, and faceroll to victory.

I send boarding parties onto unmanned ships all the time to take out the weapon systems quickly while I pound the shields and engines. Rank 2 Teleporter you have enough time to do the damage and port them back out before they die.

Also, using Rockmen is nice, love that extra health.

Being caught by the Rebel Fleet when you are out of fuel should be game-over. Toss a ship basically as powerful as the final boss at the player and let them have their last blaze-of-glory as they are torn apart.

My best runthrough so far basically handed me everything I could ask for, and was the first game I beat the final boss on, and did it easily too. I was able to board nearly every ship and kill the crew and get more scrap and items, and in Sector 3 I salvaged a Burst III off a pirate, then in Sector ...

A big part of the strategy of this game is the micromanagement of the crew and firing your weapons in the most efficient order and toggling on/off systems as needed, etc etc. It's all about micromanagement and automating crew running off to heal could be a serious problem and get you killed really. ...

It would be easy enough to insert some sort of calculation into the game that, say, takes the highest skill value from each of your crew then divides an average and applies that value to a random skill on new/purchaseable crew. I think that'd be a good idea, incoming crew would be LESS skilled, but ...
