I would like some incentive to attack the rebels that helps a workaround scenario - like maybe attacking the rebels slows down their pursuit speed for a couple of turns? I see that as a two prong mechanic - one it gives a player on the very edge of defeat a little room to breathe and it is incentive...

I can see them being brought back without fire if they were teleported over. the teleports should have them in their memory and be able to identify foreign matter and unwanted energy states

This is why I put drone control as my highest contingency priority. During battle I use two antiship drones and afterwards I throw in a sysrepair drone to handle hostile fire environments.

Here's my basic method of engagement : I rely very heavily on overwhelming firepower. the two ions really makes the early part difficult.

er yeah that was a mess.

I mean I get a lot of beams, bombs, torps and ion now. To me the bread and butter weapons are burst lasers and I really am not seeing them much anymore.

seems like it's been consistent.

My weapon distribution seems funky now. 4 out of 5 games I don't get enough beam weapons to finish the game. I hit almost every encounter I can and strive to get to every store. I don't know why this would be, but it seems like there are more 'other' weapons now, and the vendors are often beam, bomb...
