Re: The role of missiles

Missiles can be useful on gun-ships for hitting enemy weapons or engines (not just shields) - weapons to delay their offense just like the enemy does to your weapons, engines to also greatly assist the rest of your shots landing (minus 10 to 15% evasion can result in 2 or more extra projectiles land...

Re: Does pre igniter work with artillery beam

The Weapon Pre-Igniter doesn't work, but the Automated Reloader does, which can be pretty handy.

Re: How to beat the Flagship?

Could be that the enemy is intelligent enough to always go for weapons when you have a Flak II (or a Glaive beam) and no means to counter the hacking. Nope, the enemy hacking is random each time. Justin Ma also sort-of confirmed that hacking targetting doesn't change between difficulties (the way t...

Re: Faster Than Light - Tips for New Players

The main point about mind controlling an opponent is to buy time during which he won't repair his own ship (or attack your own crew on your own ship), and more energy on mind control won't buy more time. Actually, higher-level mind control does last longer than lower-level (which is why Flagship's ...

Re: I hate the Crystal A!

Basically the problem with Crystal A is that, since the weapons are slow, the enemy will always get the first shot in sector 1 no matter what. To compensate, it has one of the strongest damage potentials at 4 damage to a 1-shielded ship. This means the weapons remain decently powerful punches at the...

Re: What other games do you play?

I play quite a lot of the obscure indie game Deadly Rooms of Death , a turn-based tile puzzle game about having a swordsman go kill a bunch of monsters in a dungeon. The monsters have predictable behavior, and everything dies in one hit, so it turns into a puzzle game about manipulating monsters, de...

Re: A flow chart to describe the game

1) Defensive drones and cloaking go very nicely with the Artillery beam - the former to protect you from hacking and missiles, and the latter to essentially reduce the artillery beam's timer significantly. Defense Drone II especially is nice since it shoots down nearly everything. 2) Asteroid fields...

Re: A minor Engi change I'd love to see

They already have a place in boarding parties, as an extra party above and beyond your "normal" party. If you can damage the weapons or are otherwise okay with taking them off your ship, Engi can help you win even fights, tank damage so your injured Mantis can continue shooting projectiles...

Re: FTL Rules Of Thumb

Just thought of a new one. 86. With regards to level 1 hacking on the shields system: When you do a 1-power hack on enemy shields, it'll only take away 1 shield bubble. When enemies do a 1-power hack on your shields system, it'll take away 2 shield bubbles. I'm pretty sure this isn't actually true (...

Re: The Long Game

That is an amazing build, and an equally great feat, but cripes man, take a break and retire from highscoring! I think a six-digit highscore can and should stand eternally as a signifier of how frigging long it takes to grind out a highscore like that, and how little the difference is between a 95,0...
