Re: Strategizery!

Another method I employ is pausing before I'm about to be hit by a barrage and redistribute my power to engines. Once one of my shields goes down, I can pump two more points to engines. Redistributing power like this lets me save scrap that I would have to spend on upgrading power a bunch. Very int...

Re: saving in FTL

So then don't have an online leaderboard, or only allow games that are played with the save option disabled.

That's a good idea. The second part that is. What's the point of keeping score if you can't have a leaderboard on which to brag?

Strategizery!

Sharing strategy is a good way to increase our enjoyment of the game, and allow the devs to understand how we play. Lets start. So, I used to think, oh I'll just fire at the shields, then fire at the weapons, then boom goes the enemy ship! This works for the first few systems, but eventually I notic...

Re: Shooting drones?

Yep, it's absolutely possible to shoot down enemy drones. You have to be really good at timing/have some luck. I believe it's possible to shoot your own drones down as well, though I'm not entirely sure.

I hope they put in steam achievements that reward/pity the player when this happens.

Re: saving in FTL

There's a problem in that save scumming will make it difficult, if even possible, to create a fair leaderboard. There are some ways to help prevent this like having the game check a save file's save time against its OS date modified. But it's a very fragile system that can be ruined by antivirus sca...

Re: Where did you hear about FTL?

RockPaperShotgun had the article that drew me in. In fact, here it is: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/28/beaming-ftl-is-the-star-trek-game-ive-always-wanted/

Re: Steamworks: Steam Cloud

This is surprisingly useful for the few games that can run on my rig and laptop. However, I'm unaware of the cost of implementing this. Valve may demand an arm and a leg for this feature.

Re: Question: Playable ships

Capturing a ship, while probably difficult to implement at this point if it hasn't been in the pipeline, sounds freaking amazing! It'd be an awesome last ditch effort in a dire situation.

Re: Steam Achievements (PC version)

I like the Space Quest references better :D  Do you mean Galaxy Quest? If so that gave me some ideas: Never give up, never surrender Die in combat while having the ability to make an FTL jump. Well you sure showed them, didn't you? By Grabthar's Hammer! Kill the enemy boarder with a crew membe...
